I’m happy to report that Oviedo Lodge had yet another successful BBQ this past Saturday! I would like to thank the many Brothers who helped to pull this off. Many of you donated your time and efforts, as well as food donations and money, and I can absolutely say we could not have done it without you!
While our overall turnout appeared to be slightly less than last year, we still expect to clear right around $1000! That is a big help towards keeping us out of the red, and continuing to grow!!
We also had at least one new candidate interested in joining us, and we recently had a couple other others submit petitions. That’s great news, since we can only do more, and be a stronger presence on our community with continued growth in our ranks.
There were far too many Brothers involved to thank everyone who helped… you know who you are! But I would like to single out our Senior Warden Tim Harrold, for once again doing a fantastic job cooking all the pork, as well as taking care of many other “behind the scenes” tasks essential to pulling this off. Job well done Brother! We are truly lucky to have you around! We probably owe Tim’s wife Karen a big Thank You as well!
Again – many thanks to all who helped and participated in our yearly BBQ Fundraiser!! Awesome job guys!!!!
Right Honorable John Werner was called to the Celestial Lodge above earlier this week. He was recently diagnosed with a widespread and agressive cancer, that had gone undetected.
Begining his Masonic career in Maryland, he became an active and perpetual member of Oviedo Lodge in 1990, after moving to the area. John was Worshipful Master of Oviedo Lodge in 1995, after which he served as Secretary from 1996 to 2005. During that time, he was also appointed District Instructor for the Proud 17th Masonic District, and faithfully served his brethren as such from 1996 to 1998.
In addition to numerous other positions and honors within his own Lodge, John served on several Grand Lodge committees, including Perpetual Membership, FA-100 Endowement, Penal Affairs, and Arrangements. He received his 25 Year Mason award in May of this year. After retirement, John returned to Maryland, where he lived with his wife Grace at the time of his passing.
Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.
On Thursday, August 30th, Richard Thomas Richardson was initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason at Oviedo Lodge #243. Please welcome our newest Brother to Oviedo Lodge! The Degree Team did a great job, and the event was well attended. Many thanks to the Team and to those who came out for the Called Communication - including visitors from Sanford 62, Orlando 69, and Winter Park 239. It was a great evening!
